Celebrate textile heritage - Greenville News

Tue, Sep 27, 2011
Gastonia, Charlotte, Columbia, Danville and Greensboro have done in the effort to establish lasting memorials to the textile industry. This industry, which contributed greatly to the growth and development of the Upstate of South Carolina, should never be forgotten by current and future generations. The public is invited to join in celebrating our Fifth Annual Textile Heritage Week, which runs Oct 1-9 and find out more about our aspirations in preserving our textile heritage. Our weeklong celebration begins with a Textile Heritage Festival at the Upcountry History Museum on Oct. 1-2. The festival includes exhibits, presentations and great music from the golden age of radio, “Turn Your Radio On.” Special guests include radio personalities, Wally Mullinax and Country Earl, and Janson Cox of S.C. Cotton Museum, which is located in Bennettsville. Musical performances during the two-day event will include Greenville Textile Band and Chorale, Rahab Hackett, Kay Crowe, Dennis Smith and The Confederates. We’re often reminded of a quote from one of Greenville’s great leaders and visionaries of the 20th Century. Dr. L.P. Hollis said, “It Can Be Done!” Help us make these dreams become reality. Our fathers and Greenville deserve it.
