Honda ATV operated by William Preston Seabolt, 28, of Fort Scott, was stopped on Locust Road when an eastbound Yamaha ATV rear-ended the Honda.

Riding with Seabolt was 21-year-old Lacey Raelynn Page, who died at the scene. Andrew Daniel Pelzer, 27, driver of the Yamaha, died at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. Seabolt was taken to University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
3. A Mapleton man died Aug. 2 following an accident on U.S. Highway 69 about six miles south of Fort Scott that set off a multi-vehicle collision. Mark Scharenberg, 59, was driving his 2004 Nissan pickup truck southbound on U.S. 69 and went left of center on the road, striking a Westar Energy pickup truck head-on. Scharenberg died in the crash.
Four other vehicles were also involved in the accident but no injuries were reported. The accident took place on U.S. 69 just north of Deer Road across from Faith Christian Center. The Bourbon County Sheriff's Office, Garland Rural Fire Department and Kansas Department of Transportation helped at the accident site.
2. An investigation continues into a house fire that occurred Oct. 13 at a home on Grand Road just south of Fort Scott. Once on scene, emergency personnel found the male resident of the home, Brent A. Bollinger, 25, with burn injuries. He was transported to Mercy Health Center and later flown to the University of Kansas Hospital.
A second victim, Bryson D. Bollinger, 2, was also found with burns and transported to Mercy Health Center. He was then transferred to Children's Mercy in Kansas City and then to Shriners Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. A body found inside the home was identified through dental records as Brenna Nicole (Stewart) Bollinger.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas State Fire Marshal were contacted to assist local authorities in determining the cause of the fire.
