He was a retired farmer and retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, Ravenswood, and was a member of United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668. Prior to Kaiser, he worked at Goodyear Rubber in Akron, OH and for DuPont at the Belle, WV Plant. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse, Forrest Home, and was a graduate of Ripley High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mabel Maxine (Jones) Hatcher; son and his wife Steve and Melissa Hatcher of Ripley; daughters and sons-in-law, Vera M. and Thornton Smith of Parkersburg, and Velma “Mackie” and Tom Goodson of Ripl...

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Wichman; two sons, Loren and Gregory; brother Dennis Welsh; and sisters Judy Welsh and Lucille Wichman.Memorial donations in honor of Kathleen can be made to Special Olympics or a charity of the donor’s choice.Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Creel Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, with rite of committal services to follow in the Moore Cemetery.Service arrangements are under the care of Creel Funeral Home. Dick was born April 28, 1958, in Winona, the son of Wilton and Pauline (Zakrzewski) Bellman.  He  attended St. Stanislaus grade school and Winona Senior High School. He worked at Goodyear/Wingfoot Tire for many years as a tire technician.  His most recent employment was at CHS. Dick was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Winona. Marion Dougherty, Hollywood Star-Maker, Dies at 88

Marion Caroline Dougherty was born in Holidaysburg, Pa., on Feb. 9, 1923, to Sarah and Orr Dougherty. She is survived by two sisters, Doris Keller and Virginia Goodyear. Ms. Dougherty graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1944 and came to New York hoping to be a set designer. For a time, she earned $45 a week designing windows at Bergdorf Goodman. Then a friend working for “Kraft Television Theater” asked her to become a casting assistant. Six years later she was casting director. “No casting director can truly say, ‘I knew he was gonna be a star’ — because that’s a bunch of baloney,” Ms. Dougherty told The Miami Herald in 1991. “Casting is a game of gut instinct. You feel their talent and potential in the pit of your stomach. It’s about guts and luck.” ... (New York Times)

The theme is “Carver’s Festival of Christmas Colors.” The parade starts at the old Goodyear warehouse (corner of N. Sixth Street and Tuscaloosa Avenue) and ends on Jacksonville Court. There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place floats. A $15 entrance fee is due by Saturday. Vendors are welcome with a $25 setup fee. For information, call Billy Billingsley, 256-543-1604; Claude Burnett, 256-413-7620; or Jalania Harris, 256-390-0504. RSVP is in need of volunteers to help with its free income tax preparation service. No experience required, flexible hours, training provided, located in convenient, public places throughout Etowah County. The only requirement is to have basic computer knowledge. The GADSDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY staff is recruiting more members for its Friends of the Library group. Prospective Friends are invited to stop by the main branch to pick up applications.
