Born in Calumet, Ariz., he graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Blytheville, Ariz.
Mr. Ervin served in the Army for three years beginning in 1943, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines.

Mrs. Maxine Wiley Taylor, 53, of Ozan, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, in Nashville.She was born February 13, 1958, in Blytheville.She graduated from Lincoln High School in Washington. She united with St. Luke CME Church and worked for the USDA.She was preceded in death by her parents, I.V. Sr. and Joanne Wiley; four sisters, and two brothers.She is survived by her husband, John L. County Chamber of Commerce, president; West Helena Lions Club, president; Business and Professional Men’s Club, president, Phillips County Community College, Board, organized First National Bank of Blytheville, Helena National Bank and Merchants & Farmers Bank; served as president and director of Merchants & Farmers Banks (now Southern Development Bancorp); Arkansas State Bank commissioner; Arkansas Bankers Association, treasurer; and served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Services for Doug Simmons will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 at West Helena Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roller-Citizens. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena. Rev. Dusty Rhodes will officiate.
Pallbearers are Lannie Travis, Ken Fratesi, Jimmy Boyd, Warren Tardy and David Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Lannie Travis Sunday School class: Brooks Griffin, Scooter Gabbie, Jimmy Nichols and Thad Humphries.
