Sunday in Buffalo Veteran Affairs Medical Center after a short illness. He was 87. Born in Calumet, Ariz., he graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Blytheville, Ariz. Mr. Ervin served in the Army for three years beginning in 1943, stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. County Chamber of Commerce, president; West Helena Lions Club, president; Business and Professional Men’s Club, president, Phillips County Community College, Board, organized First National Bank of Blytheville, Helena National Bank and Merchants & Farmers Bank; served as president and director of Merchants & Farmers Banks (now Southern Development Bancorp); Arkansas State Bank commissioner; Arkansas Bankers Association, treasurer; and served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Services for Doug Simmons will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 at West Helena Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roller-Citizens.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena.  Rev. Dusty Rhodes will officiate. Pallbearers are Lannie Travis, Ken Fratesi, Jimmy Boyd, Warren Tardy and David Griffin.  Honorary pallbearers are members of the Lannie Travis Sunday School class: Brooks Griffin, Scooter Gabbie, Jimmy Nichols and Thad Humphries.
