Philip Vannatter, 70, Dies; O. J. Simpson Investigator

Tue, Jan 24, 2012
Roman Polanski in 1977 on charges of having unlawful sex with an under-age girl — when he was called before dawn to the home of Ms. Simpson in the Brentwood neighborhood on June 13, 1994. There he found the slashed bodies of Ms. Simpson, the former wife of Mr. Simpson, the football star and broadcaster; and an acquaintance, Mr. Goldman. After surveying the scene, Detective Vannatter and three other detectives — Mark Fuhrman, Ronald Phillips and Tom Lange, who was the other lead investigator — visited Mr. Simpson at his home nearby in order to tell him of his former wife’s death, Detective Vannatter testified. Mr. Simpson was not at home, but Detective Fuhrman found blood spots on Mr. Simpson’s car, a white Ford Bronco, parked in front of the house. Concerned for Mr. Simpson’s safety, he... Romney's narrow win reshapes GOP field - Greenville News

Thu, Jan 5, 2012
Other candidates were eager to move on as well. Bachmann was appearing in South Carolina on Wednesday and the rest of the week. Santorum scheduled a “Faith, Family and Freedom” town hall meeting in Brentwood, N.H., on Wednesday. Romney, already airing TV ads in New Hampshire and South Carolina, was beginning to air ads as well in Florida, which follows South Carolina on the GOP calendar. (Page 4 of 4) For Romney, who finished a disappointing second in Iowa in 2008, the challenge has been to win over socially conservative Republicans who rejected him four years ago as too moderate. Romney has remade his candidacy in more conservative stripes, opposing abortion and blasting the health care reforms that Obama pushed through Congress, even though they were modeled after what Romney signed into law as governor of Massachusetts. While there was no contest on the Democratic side, Obama addressed Iowa Democratic activists by video. He said that “because of” them the Iraq War ended, a major health care law was passed and the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gay men and lesbians has ended. The GOP presidential race has been unusually volatile, with one can...

Scandals Of 2011 - Contactmusic.com

Mon, Dec 26, 2011
After a respectable 25 years of marriage, Maria Shriver moved out of the couple's Brentwood mansion. A week later, the Los Angeles Times broke the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger had fathered a son, 14 years previously, with one of their household's employees. The scandal did not end there, with the actress Brigitte Nielsen publicly admitted that she, too had an intimate relationship with Schwarzenegger whilst he was married to Maria Shriver. Perhaps 2012 will see a few more skeletons tumbling from The Terminator's closet. 10. Christina Aguilera As if the embarrassment of messing up the lyrics to the national anthem of the USA, 'Star-Spangled Banner' (which she performed at the Super Bowl XLV) wasn't enough, Aguilera hit the headlines again, later in the year, when she was arrested for public intoxication. The incident happened in West Hollywood, when her boyfriend MATT RUTLER was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was later released on bail and her mug shot was never released to the public. Rutler also got off the charge, due to a lack of evidence. Christina Aguilera managed to redeem herself with the release of the hit 'Moves Like Jagger', recorded with Maroon 5 and ended the...

Harry Morgan: An appreciation - Newsday

Sat, Dec 10, 2011
Wednesday at age 96, leaving behind a body of TV and movie work that pushed into Guinness record territory and indelibly defined what it meant to be a "supporting" actor. Morgan -- who died at his Brentwood, Calif., home while battling pneumonia, his daughter-in-law, Beth Morgan, told The Associated Press -- had largely retired from acting a decade ago, but by then he had appeared in a steady stream of films dating back to 1942. Television work came after movie roles became more infrequent, and it was that medium which would largely define him, despite a series of landmark films through the '50s, from "High Noon" to "Inhe...

Harry Morgan, ‘M*A*S*H’ and ‘Dragnet’ Actor, Dies at 96

Wed, Dec 7, 2011
Barbara Bushman, whom he married in 1986; three sons from his first marriage, Christopher, Charles and Paul; and eight grandchildren. A fourth son, Daniel, died in 1989. Mr. Morgan lived in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles. His son Charles, a lawyer in Los Angeles, said in a telephone interview that he would marvel at his father’s photographic memory. “My dad would read a script the way somebody else would read Time magazine and put it down and be on the set the next day,” he said. But Harry Morgan never sat as a guest on a talk show, Charles Morgan said; it did not seem appropriate or necessary. “Appearing on a talk show to focus on himself because he was Harry Morgan,” he said, “was not nearly as natural as appearing in a role as Pete Porter or Bill Gannon or Colonel Potter, or as the cowboy drifter who wandered into town with Henry Fonda and got wrapped up in a vigilante brigade in ‘Ox-Bow Incident.’ ” ...
