She was born in Riverhead on June 2, 1919, to Ralph C. Brown and Mary Fanning Brown. A graduate of Riverhead High School, she went on to attend William and Mary College and Pratt Institute of Fashion Design.On Oct. 24, 1941, she was married to Hamilton Adams of Dungannon, Northern Ireland, and New York City. They had two daughters and lived in Manhasset and then Plandome, spending summer weekends in Laurel.

"You hear people say that people are icons, and you question whether or not it's true," said a longtime friend, Dee Pratt. "(But) you would have to say she is an icon."
Ms. Crain, a native of Crawfordsville, Ind., came to Memphis after World War II, serving as executive director of the Memphis Dairy Council for 14 years.
She went to Chicago from 1961 to 1968 to work for the National Dairy Council, but returned to Memphis, eventually taking a job with Shelby County government at the penal farm and county nursing homes.
She retired in 1980, then produced a book of vignettes about her life called "Of Weeds & Views: One Woman's Journey."
"Retired" might be the wrong word, though, for such an independent and strong-willed woman, her family and friends said.
"She was very determined. She had a very strong sense of right and wrong," said another son, Michael Crain. "She was determined to treat people properly."

He was director of Religion and Philosophy at Enoch Pratt Free Public Library and Associate Directory, Coppin State College, Baltimore. He was on the staff of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Seminary, Baltimore. He also served on the staff of the St. James Episcopal Church for nine years.
In 1974, Father Dudley was called to Holy Trinity in Nashville and was given permission to serve on the staff at Tennessee State University as Assistant Director of the Library. He served parishes in St. Petersburg, Fl., and in Bridgeport, Conn., at one of the largest black Episcopal churches at the time.
Father Dudley retired in 1993 and returned to Atlanta where he has been a faithful servant at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Father Dudley leaves a devoted wife of 59 years, Allegra; daughter Karen, and son Angus (Barbara) and two grandsons, Sterling and Courtland, niece, Vannesa Williams, aunts, Dorris Williams and Mattie Brooks, and many other relatives and friends.

Robert Lee Pratt, 82, of Lebanon died Wednesday.
Robert served in the Navy on the USS Colorado during World War II. He was known for his great humor, positive outlook and big personality.
